KazMunayGas carried out the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export ever done in Iso Tank from Fluxys LNG terminal in Zeebrugge Belgium to China on the 23rd of November 2016. The LNG arrived in China after 36 days and it was used by small scale powerplants. After the LNG was discharged, the ISO tanks were returned to Europe for reloading of LNG. The operation was a success story and the Chinese State Oil Company Sinochem was pleased with the result of the pioneer project.
The use of Virtual Pipeline technology to deliver compressed natural gas (CNG) and LNG is a relatively new concept with only a handful of industry players offering this service to off-pipeline customers.
The opportunity is now coming to various parts of the world as it has become clear that pipeline gas will not be readily available to many industries as well as commercial/institutional and even residential customers around the world.
The installation of pipelines to remote industrial sites and certain sparsely populated regions (or heavily populated areas where the installation of a pipeline would significantly impact existing infrastructure) are simply not economically viable and likely never will be, making deliveries via the virtual pipeline the only practical solution.
